Milwaukee Bombers narrowly defeated the Cincinnati Dockers (Ohio Valley River Rats) in a very fast-moving and entertaining game on Saturday. Although the
scores were close at half time, the Dockers (River Rats) looked like they
had the measure of the Bombers with the home advantage.
However,
Milwaukee in the third quarter piled on six unanswered goals, including three consecutive
goals by star forward Andy Ciganek to take quite a handy 28 point lead coming into the last term.

With two MAAFL Championship wins, the Nashville Kangaroos
were optimistic about their road trip to St
Louis. However, St
Louis had been a formidable opponent over the past few
years, and the winless record of Championship Division “away” teams
provided serious reason for doubt. The Roos brought a strong team that trained
hard for this challenge.
Due to the
flooding conditions in St. Louis’ home
field at Buder Park
in southwest St.
Louis, the game was shifted to Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, IL.
The game time temperature was a hot 92F (34C), with a bit of humidity thrown in
and for good measure, a gusting crosswind of 25-35 mph, making kicks high in
the breeze take interesting flight paths.

On a wonderful Chicago day with the mercury in the mid 70's, the Windy City lived up to it's name with a cross ground breeze that made scoring difficult and concise ball movement tough. A very good looking crowd of 50 had turned up to see United in their home opener against their old foe, the blue boys of St Louis who had come to the shores of Lake Michigan many a time only to return to the Mississippi with the 4 points. Chicago went into the game favorites despite St Louis's massive win over the Minessotta Freeze and the butt kicking Nashville had given the United lads in Tennessee and it was an angry Chicago team that took the field, looking for redemption for that loss. |

In what could be described as a mini upset the St Louis Blues were too good for the traveling Minnesota Freeze in both team's first game of the 2008 season. The much more fancied Minnesota Freeze had traveled fairly well and were expected by many to be too classy for the Blues, however the St Louis team had other ideas and posted a great first up win by an impressive 52 points. St Louis 11.14. 80 d Minnesota 3.10. 38 In the other game Saturday the Nashville Kangaroos were just too good for the Cincinatti Dockers despite a comeback by the visitors late in the game. The Dockers who were assisted by the Louisville Kings were very competitive all day and can be encouraged by their effort. Nashville remain at the top of the Championship ladder with a 2.0 record and their next test will be on the road in St Louis on June 7th. Nashville 12.8. 80 d Cincinnati 8.4. 52 |
