Season 2009 kicks off
Monday, 18 May 2009

The 2009 MAAFL season officially kicked off with Chicago traveling to Ohio to take on Cincinnati. The Swans were never troubled winning 16.15. (111) to 7.1. (43). Rohan Ward for Chicago was given the nod as the best on the ground taking up from where he left off last season.

In other games the Atlanta Kookaburras traveled down to Louisianna to take on Baton Rouge. In warm conditions the Kookas were far too strong for the inexperienced Tigers winning easily 17.12. (114) to 2.4. (16)

Chicago MAAFL Premiers for 2008
Friday, 26 September 2008

The 2008 MAAFL Premiership race as is normally the case came down to the last game and Chicago United have successfully defending their 2007 title by again being crowned the premier club in the Mid American Australian Football League.

Interestingly the United team did not have to take the park on the last weekend of competition but just had to sit back and see if Nashville could snatch the cup from their grasp at the death knock. It wasnt to be for the Kangaroos as they went down to Minnesota Freeze leaving Chicago on top of the ladder on percentage over the Milwaukee Bombers.

Championship trophy still in the balance
Monday, 15 September 2008

In another twist for the Championship MAAFL competition Chicago United gave themselves a great chance of taking the 2008 title with a solid win over Milwaukee on Saturday. The 50 point win 10.14 (74) to 3.6 (24) moves them to the top of the ladder after their five games and clear of Milwaukee in second place, but Nashville still have a chance of causing another upset.

The Nashville Kangaroos sharpened up for the challenge with a home game against Atlanta coming a mile back to kick five goals in the last quarter and win another thriller against their old and nearest rivals. Their task however next Saturday will be a lot bigger as they have to travel to play the Minnesota Freeze away and then also win by a large margin to make up the difference in percentage.

Roughly a 70 point win, somewhere like 100 to 30 will be required by the Kangaroos to snatch the title from Chicago who must just wait out the day to hear their fate. Nashville also will probably need the return of leading goalkicker Chris Moerman who was notably missing from their win on Saturday against the Kookaburras.

So it really is down to the wire with either Nashville or Chicago looking to win that automatic invite into Div 1 at the Nationals and be the 2008 MAAFL Champions

Milwaukee bolts clear in MAAFL race
Monday, 11 August 2008

The Milwaukee Bombers moved to clear favorites now in the race for the MAAFL title after an emphatic 78 point drubbing of the Minnesota Freeze in Minneapolis on Saturday. The win took the Bombers to the top of the MAAFL championship table with 4 wins from 4 games, one win clear of both Chicago United and the Nashville Kangaroos.

What is just as note worthy is their big win took their percentage tally to 179.9 almost ensuring that even if they lose in their last MAAFL game to Chicago they could will still win the MAAFL title on a percentage count back. That would happen if the loss to Chicago is just a few goals and not a huge margin. The other chance for Bombers to lose the title is if Nashville can do a similar job on Minnesota away and win big and tie the Bombers with 4 wins and make up the difference in percentage.

So it might become a game of mathematics. Win first, then run for the calculator. Check out the full ladder here.
